Character Description : Ribi 
 
 One of those minor characters that made my heart sank when she was killed. Ribi is an official in EN during the early years when Naotaka took office. And it seemed that she was the only one that believed in her king and could immediately see what Naotaka was doing and supported him in full force. One day, Naotaka called Ribi into his chambers on a secret meeting. Naotaka could see that she was the only few that are loyal to him, but she alone understands what he is doing and why he is doing it and thus told her that he needed someone who can help him spy on the state lords but still stay loyal to him. She was the only one that could do that, but he also knew that if she took this post, she will soon land herself in her own grave and did not want that to happen either. Seeing her king's plight, she immediately took the position without a second thought and told him that she will die for him if that day comes. Naotaka said "I am sorry" for placing her in this situation. ( Kings in those days apologized to no one and for that to happen it means that the king has placed away all his pride ). Ribi was touched by those words of sincerity and kindness. This pledge of loyalty turned out to be a truthful one where during the rebellion in EN, she was captured with Enki and imprisoned. Both their foreheads were tied with a red string and that breakage of one will mean that the other will tighten and kill the other party. Ribi knows that her master needed Enki to be by his side if this rebellion was to be stopped. She sat Enki down and talked to him, dismissing his doubts about their king and what was really going on. When Enki heard all this he was shocked by what he was not able to see in Naotaka. At this instant, Ribi moved towards Enki and told him that he must take flight and aid their king and cut the string on Enki's forehead which resulted in her own death. However, what she did not know is that, blood to a Kirin is like poison and her blood weakened him to an extent that Enki was not able to get out of the prison. But her actions turned out to be fruitful as the spell was broken and Enki found Naotaka and suppressed the rebellion. Ribi made an appearance in the early part of the anime as well, but most people would have not remembered it. When Enki was still young and at his first king choosing session, there was a female official that ran up to him telling him that she did not climb Mt. Ho to become the next ruler of EN but to request Enki to choose a king for EN. She did this because she was not able to bear the suffering that she is seeing the people of EM go through everyday and is very saddened by it. But when Enki heard the suffering that EN was going through, he was so confused that he transported himself back to Japan... |
